Northeast Conference

The Northeast Conference (NEC) is a Division I collegiate athletic league primarily serving institutions in the Northeastern United States. Its member schools compete across various NCAA Division I sports, with football teams participating in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

The NEC’s name reflects its geographic focus, encompassing schools primarily from the Northeast region. This regional concentration allows for natural rivalries and logistical efficiency in scheduling and travel.

As a multi-sport conference, the NEC provides a competitive platform for its member institutions across a range of athletic programs. Its participation in Division I, including FCS football, positions the NEC as a significant player in the landscape of collegiate athletics in the Northeast.

The conference’s structure allows smaller and mid-sized institutions in the region to compete at the highest levels of collegiate sports, fostering both athletic excellence and regional pride.
