Mountain West Conference

The Mountain West Conference (MW) is a Division I collegiate athletic league in the Western United States, established in 1999. Its football teams compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

MW members span seven states: California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming, with an associate member in Hawaii. This geographic diversity reflects the conference’s broad Western focus.

Most MW charter members transitioned from the Western Athletic Conference, bringing established rivalries and traditions. The conference has evolved since its founding, adapting to changes in collegiate athletics while maintaining its Western identity.

Led by Commissioner Gloria Nevarez since 2023, the MW continues to provide a competitive platform for its member institutions across various sports, contributing to the landscape of Western U.S. collegiate athletics.
