Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC)
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) is a Division I collegiate athletic league comprising historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. In football, MEAC teams compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
Established to provide a competitive platform for HBCUs, the MEAC has secured automatic qualifying bids for NCAA postseason play in several sports. These include men’s and women’s basketball, softball, tennis, and volleyball. The conference has also been a pioneer in less traditional collegiate sports, being the first to gain NCAA sanctioning for women’s bowling.
MEAC’s focus on diverse athletic opportunities, combined with its representation of HBCUs, gives it a unique position in the landscape of American collegiate athletics. The conference continues to balance competitive sports programs with the broader educational missions of its member institutions.
