Souther Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC)

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) is a Division II collegiate athletic league, established in 1913. It primarily comprises historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) located in the Southern United States, with a few exceptions.

Notable for leading Division II conferences in football attendance, the SIAC has evolved significantly over its century-long history. Only three of its charter members remain: Clark Atlanta University, Tuskegee University, and Morehouse College.

The conference has expanded its scope in recent years, welcoming its first non-HBCU member (Spring Hill College) in 2014 and its first non-Southern member (Central State University of Ohio) in 2015. It has also seen the return of former members, including Savannah State, Allen, and Edward Waters universities.

The SIAC’s composition reflects both its historical roots in Southern HBCUs and its adaptability to changing landscapes in collegiate athletics. This blend of tradition and evolution continues to shape the conference’s identity and competitive dynamics in NCAA Division II sports.
