NFL
The National Football League, the wealthiest sports league in the world, began as a merger between two separate organizations. The initial iteration was established in 1966 when the National Football League combined with the American Football League, leading to the inaugural championship game, known as the Super Bowl, being played the following year.
Originally comprising 14 teams, the league has expanded to encompass 32 teams, divided into two conferences: the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference. Collectively, these teams boast a staggering net worth of $165 billion, according to recent valuations.
The league’s current commissioner, Roger Goodell, assumed his role in 2006 and is contracted to serve until at least 2027. The NFL season commences in early September, with each team playing 17 games until early January. Of the 32 teams, 14 qualify for the playoffs, culminating in the highly anticipated Super Bowl event. This championship game consistently attracts massive viewership, with the most recent Super Bowl in 2024 drawing a record-breaking 123.4 million viewers.
